At Augustus Gelatery we are committed to sustainability and operating in an environmentally responsible manner.
We are supporting the Australian Government’s commitment of no packaging to landfill by 2025 through our packaging choices, whether you enjoy a creamy gelato or milkshake at one of our stores or take home ome some treats for later.
Paper Gelato cups
For those enjoying treats at our stores Augustus Gelatery gelato cups are made from paper, with a plastic (polypropylene) coating so that they don’t get soggy and leak. No one wants to lose their gelato on the floor.
Our BIO spoons are made from a biodegradable plastic, which means they will degrade in 1 to 5 years if they end up in landfill.
If you want a zero packaging option, choose our delicious cone instead of a cup and spoon!
Our milk shake cup and lid are made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate), which is one of the most widely recycled plastics and is also commonly used in packaging such as soft drink bottles. When you’ve finished, it can be placed in recycling bins either at home or in many public places. If you are collecting drinks for friends and family, our four cup trays are made from recycled fibre, and are 100% recyclable and compostable so you can choose the best disposal option for you.
Most of us enjoy drinking our milkshake though a straw; it’s a part of savouring the creaminess and taste. You’ve probably seen a lot of new options out there to replace traditional plastic straws. We are keen that our straws don’t contribute to the waste problem and we will be introducing chocolate coated waffle straws in the future.
Rubbish? Recycling? Sometimes it’s hard to remember what goes in which bin, so we’ve removed this confusion. We have installed co-mingled recycling bins in our stores for responsible disposal of all our packaging and food service items. This means you can put them all in the clearly marked bin and our waste contractor will sort it for us. No more confusion and no more contaminated recycling. That’s a win for you, a win for us, and a win for the planet!
For those taking their treats home for later
Our take home gelato packs are made from expanded polystyrene (EPS), because it has the best insulating properties for keeping the product cold on the journey home. This is critical so you can enjoy your gelato in perfect condition. You can’t put these containers in your kerbside recycling bin, but there are recycling options available. Here’s a link to find a convenient drop off recycling location (link to Home – Expanded Polystyrene Australia (epsa.org.au)).
The carry box for take-home gelato and cakes is made from paperboard, and the handle makes it easy to carry securely without needing an extra bag. These boxes are 100% recyclable in your kerbside recycling bin.
